This past weekend I went with a group of friends to see SATC 2.
The fashions were as controversial and breathtakingly beautiful as you would expect.
Like women everywhere, I tried to take it all in so I could go home and come up with my own interpretation of the SATC style.
I love the head wrap look and expect to see it everywhere and I will probably be sporting it myself sometime soon.
The harem pants I will probably have to pass on.
There was a LOT of fashion eye candy to distract me but I was also, as usual, making mental notes of the decor.
I do that when I watch movies.
Sometimes I miss something critical to the plot because I am busy checking out window treatments, or mantel- scapes.
I'd have to say I had mixed reactions to Carrie and Big's new apartment.
In the movie it appeared quite dark.
I do think it looks better in these still photos.
Let's hope the set looks better than the movie.
The rooms were filled with lots of dark blues and browns.
It is apparent that "Carrie" is mixing masculine and feminine elements and through the dialog she lets it be known that she considered Big's tastes and really wanted their space to reflect them.
This room, the living room, was my favorite.
The wall color is a fabulous neutral.
I absolutely love the books and the way they are displayed on the coffee table.
I want to give that a try too.
These chairs are modern and vintage at the same time. They are perfect today but look like they would be right at home in a scene out of MadMen ( circa early 1960's)
True classics.
I covet them (along with her dress and shoes).
I liked that they were upholstered in a lighter color.
Otherwise the room would have been too dark from me.
This image really lets us study the space.
I was mad for the art work and would like to do my own version of it or something like it.
I really kind of liked that sofa too.
I doubt I would ever go for the blue but I thought it had great lines.
My daughter just thought it looked uncomfortable and that Big looked uncomfortable on it.
Interesting observation.
That's why it's fun to go to movies with girls.
The floral pillow and the rug are the feminine Carrie touch.
Here is a better shot of it.
I like the rug but if I'm honest, I really don't like it here.
There is juxtaposition and then there is just plain tension.
I saw it again on Maddie's Nest.
I think it looks so much prettier here.
Just me keeping it real and throwing out my opinion but hey what do I know?
... and since I'm being honest,
I thought the dining room was just flat out ridiculous.
The shelving is gorgeous and the accents in it are colorful and interesting.
But really? Those dining room chairs?
No mincing words here,
I hate them.
The chandelier, though, is really growing on me. No, actually, I really like it. It wouldn't fit into my home but it works here.
I think I like every element in this room (other than the chairs) independently,
I just didn't like them all pulled together.
There is just too much busyness here. The light fixture, the chairs, the kitchen tiles, the shelves.
I'm dizzy.
The bedroom is also debatable.
There are elements that are so fabulous.
Starting with that bedding.
Scrumptious.
Love the colors.
Love the mix of fabrics.
Love all of the texture.
The headboard is just so luxurious.
I also like the unexpectedness and simpleness of the white secretary and the traditional touch of the patterned wallpaper,
even though I will NEVER have wallpaper again.
The draperies, though, are just so heavy and elaborate with all of that fringe.
It had me thinking, "uh uh. I wouldn't have done that".
True I may be influenced by these numbers in my own house that I am ready to take down.
I know, I keep saying that.
One of these days I will get Mr R to help me do that.
I am venturing toward a lighter more casual feel and although I love the sophistication of Big and Carrie's New York apartment I was surprised by how heavy and dark it felt.
I found my mood literally pick up when Carrie went back to her old apartment.
Still seeing the strong blues here but it was like somebody threw open the windows and let the light and fresh air in.
This is a happier look and in the end I guess this is closer to my style.
What did you think?
I'd love to get some feedback from you.
What did you think of Big and Carrie's new apartment?
Do you like their dining room?
Am I wrong about the chairs?
Do you like the big floral rug?
What was your favorite piece of furniture?
Do you think Carrie compromised herself in her decorating?
She did forfeit half of her closet to Big?
I think I liked the last closet better but I'd definitely take this one too.
Oh this economy.
Everyone has to cut back somewhere. :)
Hope to hear from you.
XOXO,
P
