BeColorful Color of the Week: Tangerine Tango or As I Like to Call it Rorange

 

Oh I know, it's been months since I featured a color of the week.

Details details. 

I've had these images on my desktop for weeks but I just never got around to writing the post... until tonight.

So Tangerine Tango is the Pantone color of 2012. We've been using it for years but I guess they lifted it to some exulted design status now and because I love the color I couldn't be happier.

Last month I sold most of the furniture that was in our family room which looks more like a sun room.

I've been playing with Olioboard and coming up with more and more concept boards.

These were last night's versions.

I have been taking my time making decisions for this space but I did finally order the two Candace Olson swivel chairs in a green Sunbrella fabric with a bit of turquoise in it. I like how I can accent the greens and creams with a number of accent colors like turquoise, yellow, navy or

"Rorange".

I didn't want to commit to any big pieces in this shade but  the more I see this color the more I know I want to incorporate it into our home.

From front doors to bathtubs to accent fabrics this is a color that says, "Welcome. Be happy here".

It really is more neutral that I realized. It works with browns, blues, greys, taupes, golds, greens, yellows even pink. 

Rorange, my new happy red.

BeColorful Color of the Week - Tangerine Orange

 

 

Tangerine Orange,

It isn't a color I thought I would ever embrace.

I always thought of orange as that late 70's color that was combined with chocolate brown and olive green.

Then a few years ago I started seeing it in a bit lighter shade.

It was being paired with pinks, limes, and aquas.

It took on a completely different personality for me and now I find myself wanting to incorporate it into my own decor.

Now I know that the consensus on peach was a big fat resounding, "No way" but open your minds. This is not your grandma's orange....

Last year my daughter and I put on a bridal shower here at home and  we used this color exclusively.

That was Liz's idea.

She sent me this inspiration board and I was immediately hooked.

 

 

 

I felt like I was late to the party though.

I figured tangerine would be a bit hard to find but it seemed to be every where.

Who knew it would be so easy?

 

 

 

Orange had made a comeback. It was better than ever and its name was

Tangerine.

 

In this softer shade tangerine can be a salient accent to any space.

When combined with other brights or to liven up an all white room

tangerine can be spectacular.

BeColorful Color of the Week - Pale Peach

Color rocks my world.

There are very few colors that I don't like.

Pale peach, though is a bit of a stretch for me.

I like it in some things, like faux pearls

or cosmetics

but when it comes to decorating

it is definitely not a go to color for me.

When I think of peach I have visions of this

or this.

I have no idea who these pictures belong to.

I found them on an ugly room site where I think people were submitting their before pictures for a makeover.

I have not suddenly gone and become a mean girl grown up.

I do hope this poor woman won the contest though.

I'd feel better knowing she had won a new dining room or at least some window curtains, upholstery fabric and wall art.

When I started to write this week's BeColorful Color of the Week post

I decided to challenge myself.

So I chose a color that very honestly makes my skin crawl.

Perhaps it was because I worked in a bridal department while I was going to school.

EVERY bride chose knit bridesmaid dresses in apricot, or shrimp but really they were all just different names for the same color... a pale peach.

It was totally overdone and I have never felt the same about this color since.

That said,

Okay, I kind of like that sofa when it is done in a contemporary shape and piped with black. I wouldn't have thought of that but I like the contrast of soft and dramatic.

I'm still not sold.

 

Just a touch in a rug is rather pretty though.

These soft colors work well together.

I also am more apt to be on board when I see it is stacked against dark red.

I like it best though when it is paired with these garden pinks and yellows and that plum? rug.

Oh my.

I'm inspired now.

This I could definitely live with.

Then there is this design diva that actually made it work with just neutral grays and taupe and a compliment of yellow.

 Casual, clean and cheerful -

  another look I can appreciate.

So I guess I will have to add pale peach to the list of colors to consider.

I just needed to give it a chance and see it used in updated styles

and with a fresh color mixes.
