Trompe L'Oeil Door

Trompe L'oeil. It means to fool the eye. Now I'm not sure this would really fool anyone's eye, but I did this doorway in a condo that doesn't have a real window looking to the outside. This door is the kitchen entrance from the hallway and I thought maybe painting a divided glass door would give the illusion of space and light. So I began by taping off the shape so I would have crisp edges.

 

 

Here we are about half way through ...

 

 

and here is the finished product. 

 

 

At least I thought it was finished but then I was asked to paint a cardinal in the tree. I couldn't be sure I could do a cardinal from memory so I will be going back later this week.
