Okay, so here's the story. It is almost two weeks into this new decade and I am just now finding my stride. The holidays were terrific. I love them and unlike my mom, it makes me a bit melancholy to pack away the Christmas decorations. On the other hand, I relish getting back into a routine and the whole idea of a fresh start. My new beginning this year was delayed a bit. We spent last week in Mobile, Alabama. It was great meeting new people and visiting a place I had never been before but now I am ready to get serious.
I mentioned that one thing on my January to do list was to clean out the kitchen cupboards. I decided to start with the frig. Now it isn't that my life is so dull that I have nothing more interesting to post about than my refrigerator. I am going somewhere with this but since I did the work I thought I could show off the results of my efforts. Doesn't it look better? :)
There is actually some open space! and yes, I am such an organization dork that I use lazy susans on the shelves .... and worse than that .... I label them. I probably need analysis.
So now to get to the point. Not only did I need to clean in here to purge all of the UFO's but I also wanted to eliminate all of the holiday sweets and temptations because after seeing some photos of myself recently I was astonished to see the result of of all of those excessive holiday calories and my lack of exercise.
My daughter told me about another blogstress extraordinaire that decided to document her weight loss goals. Instead of posting her weight she volunteered her jean size. So here I am putting it out there. Hopefully saying it out loud will motivate me towards my goal. This is me in my size 12 Gap jeans and we all know that Gap jeans run generously. I am 5' 10" and these are my long and leans. The problem is they don't look so lean. I need to be realistic but I really think that a size 8 is an attainable goal for me. I didn't get to this point overnight and I'm going to go at this as a lifestyle change not a diet. I hope my progress is steady even if it takes me longer than I would like. I am on day three of the elliptical machine and I am doing a short bit with weights three times a week. I even bought an exercise DVD for stretching. I have been down this weight gain/loss road before and what works best for me is not getting on the scale but having something like a pair of pants or a skirt that is too tight, then every Wednesday I try them on. Some weeks I don't see any progress and then other times I am pretty proud of myself. I think I will try this method again. I'm hoping that by summer I will be wearing those 8's. So, here's to looking forward, de-cluttering, simplifying and a brand new leaner and healthier me.
